Building Resilience Through Education
Sinjar and its surrounding areas are home to Yazidis and other minorities who continue
to recover from the 2014 genocide. Sinjar Academy, an educational non-profit
organization, was established to support the community's socioeconomic recovery
through quality education.

Sinjar Academy’s mission is to provide educational programs for the people of Sinjar and the surrounding communities, revitalize the community socioeconomically, and help rebuild the region post-genocide. Our values are to educate and encourage students, helping them develop their character and potential. The core being: Community, Creativity, Respect, and Resilience.
Sinjar Academy is a US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit NGO and educational institution dedicated to providing higher education services to the youth in Sinjar, northern Iraq, including districts of Sinjar, Ba’aj, Rabia, and Talafar, home to 800,000 of Iraq’s ethnic and religious minorities. Our goal is to empower these communities with quality education, promoting growth and development in a region deeply affected by conflict and displacement.
Sinjar Academy provides onsite and online programming in three main areas crucial for the development of Sinjar and the neighboring districts: English as a second language, information technology/software development, and business administration. We bridge the gap in the Iraqi education system by improving basic education and the core work skills needed for current and future employment. Sinjar Academy creates the foundation for technological advancement and enables the application of science to a wide range of sectors valuable to improving society economically. Sinjar Academy designs its programs to fit the needs of the private sector in the region. Iraqi people have generally relied on governmental employment, which has resulted in a weak private sector. The situation was exacerbated by decades of violence and the destruction of businesses. Creating opportunity in the private sector will only be possible with a highly qualified workforce and strong entrepreneurship so that the current and future generations can harness their potential.
Our Programs
Sinjar Academy offers courses in English, Business, and Technology to bridge gaps in the Iraqi education system by enhancing basic education and essential work skills for current and future employment. Sinjar Academy integrates mentors into their programs to provide real-life examples, role models, and firsthand experiences for students to learn from. Sinjar Academy lays the groundwork for technological advancement and facilitates the application of science across various sectors, driving economic improvement and societal progress.
