Job Post: Lead English Teacher/Coordinator

Location: Sinuni, Sinjar 

Salary: $500 U.S. Dollars a Month & negotiable.

Job Type: Full Time Contract - Requires 40 hours per week

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced ESL teacher to teach two English courses online and onsite in Sinuni and coordinate a team of volunteers who mentor the students and assist with the program. 

Job Requirements:  

  • Teach two English classes of 30 students each, one class to be provided remote and the other class to be provided at the SA center in Sinuni. The Teacher should be based in Sinjar.

  • Work with a team of volunteer teachers (including designing teacher-led lesson plans) as they follow an already established ‘English Language for Business’ course for non-native speakers.

  • Supplement the online curriculum with lessons designed to support the students’ needs.

  • Devise additional activities and methods that cover Business writing and speaking.  

  • Together with the volunteer teachers, continuously evaluate program progress

Skills required:

  • Previous experience as an ESL teacher or similar role. 

  • Degree in English Language, English Literature, or similar field.

  • Knowledge of various methods of teaching English to non-native speakers.

  • Great organizational and communication skills: it is essential to be able to explain information clearly and simply. Employ active listening skills to determine whether students understand the lesson.

  • Computer skills: use different software programs and platforms such as MS Office, Zoom, and Moodle to communicate with students, as well as have good general internet skills (emails, What's App, etc.)

  • Organize and support teacher-led coursework and learning materials.

  • Assess students’ progress and write reports.

  • Motivational skills: create a positive class environment and encourage students to reach their learning goals.

  • Maintain availability and punctuality but also be flexible when changes to schedules are needed.

  • Commit to 25 hours of teaching a week and 15 hours of coordination. A total of 40 hours per week. 

  • Live or be able to relocate to Sinjar and teach at the SA center in Sinuni.

To be successful in this role, it’s important to provide leadership for the volunteers and to have a patient, resilient personality with great communication skills with the students.

The Sinjar Academy is a modern academy in the Sinjar region of northern Iraq providing state-of-art educational services to a population of 800,000 people in northwestern Nineveh where large populations of Iraq’s ethnic and religious minorities, including the Yazidis, reside.
